On October 11th, BYD and China Development Bank officially signed the "Monorail Transit Industry Strategic Cooperation Agreement" in Shenzhen, with Wang Chuanfu and Zhang Xuguang, Vice President of China Development Bank, in charge. According to mutual agreement, the total planned amount of various cooperative financing between the two parties from 2016 to 2020 is 60 billion yuan.

Chairman Wang Chuanfu said, "Among the approximately 300 target cities in China, the average railway network distance between each city is about 70 kilometers. Therefore, the valuation of China's electric light rail market has reached 3 trillion yuan, which will become an important new field for BYD to achieve economic growth in the future

In June of this year, BYD reached a cooperation agreement with Pingshan New District in Shenzhen on the planning and construction of the new district's Airbus project, aiming to build a national Airbus demonstration zone within three years and solve the last mile problem with a straddle type monorail.

It is reported that BYD's rail transit vehicles will use lithium iron phosphate batteries, which do not require high and low cables and cost one sixth of the subway. It's half of the light rail.

In September of this year, the BYD light rail experimental vehicle was officially put into trial operation in the Pingshan factory area. The BYD light rail experimental line is fully elevated, with a total length of about 4.4 kilometers and a maximum operating speed of 120 kilometers. The light rail experimental vehicle consists of 8 carriages and can carry about 1600 passengers.

On October 13th, BYD will hold the opening ceremony of its first 4.4-kilometer straddle type monorail, the "Cloud Rail," at its headquarters in Pingshan, Shenzhen. Not only that, Wang Chuanfu also revealed that "Shenzhen's first 60 kilometer light rail, with an investment of 10 billion yuan, will connect Pingshan High speed Railway Station and Dapeng Peninsula; Shantou plans to invest 40 billion yuan to build 250 kilometers of light rail; Zhongshan plans to build light rail with 45 billion yuan next year; and there are 20 cities including Jiangyin, Zunyi, and Ganzhou. BYD has obtained a total of 300 kilometers of intention orders from multiple cities, with a total investment of nearly 50 billion yuan

According to BYD's 2016 semi annual report, in order to further expand its urban public transportation business, BYD will focus on developing low-carbon and environmentally friendly straddle monorails. The company claims that the straddle type monorail is a three-dimensional transportation system with independent road rights similar to a subway, with a large passenger capacity and the ability to travel quickly.

After more than 20 years of development, BYD has crossed three major industries: IT, automotive, and new energy.
